Female weight training

Not sure where this myth has come from, but I know its not from any Fitness professional.

MYTH…

Women will get bulky and look manly if they use weights or lift heavy.

Or that you wont lose weight if your lifting weights or using resistance training.

REALITY….

You will be physically stronger. This is functional more than anything. Have you ever hated when you’ve struggled to lift something? or your getting aches after manual lifting?

It reduces the risk of injury

Training allows for a higher carb tolerance after workouts because the insulin sensitivity is increased and this then increases the glucose utilisation.

Weight training builds lean muscle, speeding up the metabolism and naturally burning more body fat.

Any finally the main point…

Women have 10-30 times less the hormones that cause muscle hypertrophy. So tone and definition but less ‘bulk’.

Goal setting

It is the most important step to making a change and seeing progress.

However be specific. Don’t just say i want to lose weight, gain weight, tone up or be healthy.

Why do you want this?? what made you decide you want this? and when do you want to achieve this by?

Break it down…
To achieve this goal what do i need to do?

Do i need to exercise?
How often, where will i exercise, cost etc…

does my diet need to change?..
Is this because your eating convenience food or meals,
Are you eating a lot of fatty, high sugar, high salt foods?
Or are you just snacking or eating too much?

Do i need help?
from friends, family, a fitness professional.

What do i need to do to fit this in with my life?
Make a shopping list and sticking to it once a week,
Preparing food in the morning or evenings
Making time to exercise
Walking instead of driving everywhere.

and Visualise…
At what point will you know?
Will it be fitting into a certain outfit?
Will it be when your able to run / walk somewhere without being out of breath?
Will it be when you can complete certain exercises or lift a certain weight?

Giving up or carrying on

Its all about your mentality.

Keep a positive frame of mind not only when it comes to your training, but throughout your life. Everyone has those moments where you want to give in and just take the easier option.
I just try to think of how i feel after a good workout and then compare this to how you feel when I’ve missed a workout. Once i’m in a routine and i’ve missed something, I feel completely out of it.

If you set yourself a goal or a challenge that you know you can’t do now and work towards it, then you have some focus.

Enjoy your workout its suppose to be fun. So add in exercises that you enjoy doing it doesn’t all have to be a struggle.
